Edward M. Kilpatrick serves as Vice President of Analytics for The BOLI Group, where he leads research, analytics, and implementation for the firm’s institutional markets practice. With more than 25 years of experience in the life insurance industry, Ed specializes in the design, analysis, and execution of insurance company-owned life insurance (ICOLI) programs.
In his role, Ed manages the analytical framework that supports The BOLI Group’s ICOLI practice. His work includes evaluating insurer fundamentals—tax status, risk-based capital considerations, and portfolio composition—along with conducting quarterly earnings reviews and creating client-facing materials. Ed develops educational language and technical content for insurance company clients and prospects, coordinates presentation decks, pre-discussion preparation, and facilitates engagement with fund managers on insights relevant to institutional placements. Additional responsibilities include carrier meetings, managing follow-ups, and acting as liaison between The BOLI Group, carrier partners, SALI (the insurance dedicated fund platform) coordination, and asset managers.
Ed’s responsibilities extend to ICOLI research and execution, helping institutions optimize capital and tax efficiency through carrier interface, product modeling, and design. He heads The BOLI Group’s research function and contributes to strategic development through peer benchmarking and corporate secretariat support.
Before joining The BOLI Group in 2014, Ed spent 14 years at the Northwestern Mutual home office—the national largest mutual life insurer —where he advanced from entry-level analyst to become the subject matter expert (SME) for all institutional whole and universal life insurance products. During his tenure, he specialized in bank-owned (BOLI), corporate-owned (COLI), and insurance company-owned (ICOLI) life insurance programs—leading institutional sales initiatives, supporting large-case projects as a member of the corporate committee, vetting incoming agents, and training the 6,000+ member national field force. Today, he is frequently invited to speak at industry and corporate events, offering perspective from both the carrier and independent distribution sides of the marketplace.
Ed holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He is a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), and Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). He is a Registered Representative with FINRA, holding Series 6 and 63 licenses, and is a licensed insurance representative.
Beyond his professional work, Ed serves on the board of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Wisconsin and the planning committee for its annual Breath of Life Gala. He lives in the Milwaukee area with his wife and three children.
